Edith Pierce Memorial Award

The Winner of the 2008 Edith Pierce Memorial Award, presented by the London Potters Guild each year to a Bealart student of Ceramics, and selected by the teachers is Rachel Woolmore-Goodwin.

This award is given to encourage a Bealart student who displays outstanding talent and discipline in working with clay, and who is planning to continue their studies. We thought that this was a fitting memoriam for Edith as so much of her life was devoted to encouraging other people’s creative endeavors.

Edith Pierce served in various capacities on the Executive of the London Potters Guild, including President, and was instrumental in helping us acquire the small teaching studio in East London where we are now. She was one of our “Studio Mothers” if you will, and in her quiet way, was a force to be reckoned with. Both the London Potters Guild and the Ingersol Creative Arts Center have benefited from her efforts to create an environment where people can enrich not only their own lives, but the lives of others, by exploring creative work in clay.
